Radio Starlion - Volunteers

Volunteers One and All

Radio Starlion is run entirely by volunteers from all walks of life, whose aim is to make a patient's stay in hospital as happy as possible. Our regular broadcasts are very much a team effort, of which the programmes you hear on your bedside radio are the end-product. Request collectors have a vital role in promoting the radio service around the hospital and in giving us a direct line of contact with our listeners. Maintaining an efficient record library system means that in most cases your favourite song can be found within seconds.

The volunteers on each "shift" ensure that singles, LPs, CDs and cassettes are filed in the appropriate section in correct alphabetical or numerical order. Others share the never-ending task of inputting new titles and artists into the computer system.

We are also very fortunate to have a number of our volunteers providing invaluable help behind-the-scenes with production, publicity, hospital liaison, engineering and maintenance.
